The chairman of Adron Homes and Properties, Sir Aare Adetola Emmanuelking, has congratulated businessman Anthony Osibodu on his coronation as the Bobajiro of Ilishan-Remo in Ogun State, describing the occasion as recognition of his achievements and ties to the community.
Emmanuelking, who holds the traditional title of Borokini of Ilishan-Remo, issued the congratulatory message as Osibodu celebrated his birthday, according to a statement released on 20 October.
The message praised Osibodu’s business career, family leadership and community involvement. However, it did not provide details of the coronation ceremony, the process through which the title was conferred or any specific development commitments attached to the honour.
“When a man spends his years building a name of honour, there comes a time when honour itself rises to meet him,” Emmanuelking stated.
What the traditional honour means
Traditional titles remain an important feature of community life in south-western Nigeria. They can recognise personal achievements, strengthen cultural ties and give recipients a platform to participate in community affairs.
Ilishan-Remo, in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, has an established traditional institution headed by the Olofin. Its cultural calendar also includes Isanbi Day, an annual celebration that brings together residents, community groups and people with links to the town.
The 49th Isanbi Day celebration took place in October 2026 under the theme “Leveraging Legacy for Economic Revival”, with cultural heritage and community development among its central themes. .
Against this background, Osibodu’s new title offers an opportunity to examine how traditional recognition can translate into practical contributions to the town.
The statement, however, does not explain the specific duties of the Bobajiro title or whether it carries formal responsibilities beyond its cultural and community significance.
Business success and community leadership
Emmanuelking praised Osibodu for building what he described as a distinguished business profile and an international presence while maintaining humility, simplicity and strong family values.
These assessments reflect Emmanuelking’s views. The statement did not identify Osibodu’s businesses, provide financial information or offer independent evidence to measure the scale of his commercial achievements.
The chairman also cited Osibodu’s roles as Asiwaju of the Osibodu family and president of The Ilishan Club as evidence of his involvement in family and community leadership.
He argued that leadership requires integrity, maturity, trust and the ability to unite people around shared goals.
Emmanuelking said the coronation would reinforce Osibodu’s connection to his roots and give him an additional opportunity to contribute to Ilishan-Remo’s development.
He expressed confidence that the new titleholder would bring wisdom, dignity and a sense of service to the traditional institution.

Could the title benefit Ilishan-Remo?
The coronation could provide an opportunity to mobilise support for local development, preserve cultural heritage and strengthen links between the town, its business community and residents living elsewhere.
Traditional titleholders with business networks may also help attract attention to local needs, encourage philanthropy and support initiatives in areas such as education, healthcare, youth development and community infrastructure.
However, these are potential benefits, not confirmed outcomes of Osibodu’s coronation.
The congratulatory statement did not announce a new project, financial contribution, employment scheme or partnership with the community. It also did not specify whether Osibodu intends to support any particular development programme.
Residents would therefore need to judge the practical value of the title by the initiatives, partnerships and measurable results that follow.
The risks and questions that remain
Traditional recognition can raise a recipient’s public profile and create opportunities to influence community affairs. It can also increase expectations that the titleholder will contribute time, resources and expertise to the town.
One potential risk is that public celebrations and expressions of goodwill may attract more attention than the practical responsibilities that follow. Without clear commitments, residents may find it difficult to assess what the honour delivers beyond prestige.
There is also a need to distinguish traditional recognition from formal public authority. The statement does not establish that the Bobajiro title gives Osibodu governmental powers, a public budget or responsibility for delivering public services.
Any future claims about development projects, donations or community benefits should therefore identify the projects involved, the funding arrangements, the intended beneficiaries and the results achieved.
The coronation statement provides no information about public expenditure or financial obligations associated with the ceremony. It would be inappropriate to assume that public funds were used or that the event created a financial burden for residents.
What happens next?
Emmanuelking wished Osibodu continued good health, wisdom, prosperity and fulfilment as he takes on his new traditional role.
He also prayed for more years of achievement, philanthropy and service to humanity, while congratulating him on both his coronation and birthday.
The next significant development will be whether Osibodu or the traditional institution sets out specific priorities for his tenure and how the community can assess progress.
Further reporting should establish the date and circumstances of the coronation, the institution responsible for conferring the title, the duties attached to the position and Osibodu’s plans for community engagement.
Independent comments from Osibodu, traditional authorities and residents would also help establish what the coronation means to the town and what people expect from the new titleholder.
For now, Emmanuelking’s message marks a public celebration of Osibodu’s elevation. Whether the honour produces lasting benefits for Ilishan-Remo will depend on the actions and outcomes that follow.
