A former Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, Barrister Femi Joseph, has reportedly died in a road crash said to have occurred on Monday, 26 October 2026.
A report by SUNSHINETRUTH, citing a family source, said the former police spokesman died along the Ife–Ilesha Expressway. The circumstances of the crash have not been independently established.
Joseph, a lawyer and indigene of Supare Akoko in Ondo State, previously served as the police spokesman in the state and as Divisional Police Officer of Fanibi Police Station.
After retiring from the Nigeria Police Force several years ago, he returned to legal practice.
Family source dismisses kidnapping reports
According to the report, a statement announcing Joseph’s death described the loss as sudden and painful for his family, friends, colleagues and associates.
The statement also sought to correct reports about the circumstances of his death, saying he reportedly died in a road accident rather than as a result of kidnapping.
However, the available account does not identify the origin of the kidnapping reports or provide independent evidence confirming the circumstances of the crash.
The statement appealed to the public to avoid spreading misinformation and prayed for God to comfort the bereaved family and others mourning his death.
“Rest in peace, Barrister Femi Joseph Femi. Your departure is painful, and you will be greatly missed,” the statement added.

Questions remain over crash circumstances
The report does not provide details about the vehicle involved, the precise location of the crash, whether anyone else was injured or the circumstances that led to the accident.
It also does not include confirmation from the Ondo State Police Command or the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Such confirmation would help establish the circumstances of the incident and clarify whether an official investigation has begun.
The distinction matters because unverified accounts of fatal incidents can fuel speculation, particularly when social media reports introduce conflicting explanations.
What happens next?
Confirmation from the relevant authorities and further details from the family would help establish a clearer account of Joseph’s death.
For now, the reported death marks the loss of a former police spokesman who later practised law. Further details about the crash and any official response remain unconfirmed in the available report.
