Nigerian singer Timaya has defended his decision to carry comedian Real Warri Pikin on stage during a recent performance, rejecting calls for a public apology over the incident.
The singer said during an Instagram Live session that Real Warri Pikin had done nothing wrong and should not face online criticism over what happened.
“Let me be clear: No one should be dragging Real Warri Pikin because I carried her on stage. She has done nothing wrong. Yes, I carried her on stage. I stand by it. I owe no one an apology,” Timaya said.
The controversy followed an on-stage moment in which Timaya lifted Real Warri Pikin during his performance. The incident triggered reactions online, including calls for the comedian to explain the interaction to her husband and the public.
Real Warri Pikin subsequently apologised publicly, saying she understood why some people had concerns about the incident.
“I couldn’t take it easy, I beg. I couldn’t take it easy, I’m sorry. I’m sorry I take full responsibility of my actions,” she said in her response.
She explained that she had been asked to participate in the performance and described the incident as entertaining while it happened on stage.
“Yesterday was funny. It was very entertaining on stage. Everybody laughed. But online, it was not funny,” she said.

Why Real Warri Pikin apologised
The comedian said she had received strong reactions from people online, including comments questioning what the incident meant for her marriage.
She also rejected suggestions that she had deliberately sought the interaction with Timaya.
“Some people say, I’m the one that even went to, Timaya was giving me this, this, that. And I’m waiting. I’m not the no person,” she said.
Real Warri Pikin said the apology was necessary because some people were genuinely concerned rather than simply attacking her.
“I just have to say, I owe this apology. Because, I understand where you come from. Not everything is hate speech. Some people are just genuinely concerned,” she said.
Timaya makes further claims
In his Instagram Live response, Timaya went beyond defending the stage incident and alleged that he and Real Warri Pikin had previously been in a serious relationship.
He claimed they had discussed marriage, children and building a home together.
“Real Warri was meant to be my wife. I loved her. I built plans with her. Her husband knew we were in a relationship. I never hid it,” Timaya said.
He further alleged that Real Warri Pikin’s husband, whom he identified as Victor Ikechukwu, intervened in the relationship.
“Victor Ikechukwu interfered in my relationship. What happened on that stage was simply history repeating itself,” he said.
Timaya also claimed that he had invested time and emotional energy in the relationship for more than three years before her marriage.
“For over three years before their marriage, I invested my time, my energy, and my heart into that relationship. She knows this,” he said.
These claims have not been independently established from the material available for this report, and neither the alleged former relationship nor Timaya’s account of the circumstances surrounding Real Warri Pikin’s marriage should be treated as verified fact.
Why the dispute matters
The controversy highlights the scrutiny public figures can face when personal relationships intersect with public performances and social media.
Real Warri Pikin’s decision to apologise reflects the pressure celebrities often face to address online reactions to events involving their private lives. Timaya’s refusal to apologise, meanwhile, has shifted the discussion from the stage incident to his broader claims about their alleged past relationship.
The competing responses also leave an important question unanswered: whether the incident was simply an entertainment moment or whether it carried a personal meaning beyond the performance.
What happens next?
For now, Real Warri Pikin has publicly accepted responsibility for her part in the controversy, while Timaya has maintained that he did nothing wrong.
The claims about their alleged past relationship and the role of her husband remain allegations unless the people involved provide further evidence or independent sources corroborate them.
The immediate issue is therefore less about establishing a private relationship from competing accounts and more about separating what happened publicly on stage from claims about events that allegedly happened privately.
